Genre-Defying Reads
I am the author of the novels: โTeach Me How to Dieโ and
โThe Last of the Mentally Ill.โ
My Experience
People in the book world have described my first two novels as โliterary + [insert name of genre].โ My theory is that agents and editors say a book is literary when they believe the writing quality is high, but the book does not fall neatly into a genre (thriller, mystery, romance, etc.). My third, in-development novel is โBad Palestinian,โ which you may support via my Patreon.
Youโll likely enjoy at least one of my books if youโre interested in any of these themes:
Chester Owensโ life has been strictly controlled and meticulously observedโbut heโs about to find out whatโsย reallyย going on at the corporation that raised him.
What People are Saying
โNever Let Me Goโ and โBrave New Worldโ meet โTurtles All the Way Downโ in a near future where a teen with mental illness becomes the center of seismic change.
This imaginative modernization ofย The Infernoย follows a widower from San Diegoโs journey through the afterlife, and the moral dilemmas he encounters there.
Kirkus Reviews Says
Rauch imaginatively conjures an entire underworldโฆA richly creative meditation on love, mortality, and the possibility of what lies beyond.
